About
Susanne Storm is a graduate of The Danish National School of Performing Arts. Alongside her acting career, she has worked as an artist, creating a unique expression in concrete with her distinctive vessels and reliefs. Her works are found in homes around the world — in NYC, London, Stockholm, and Copenhagen — and can be explored in several restaurants and showrooms in Copenhagen.
An expression of Strength and Grace »I seek to emphasize the sculptural presence and the elemental beauty of the raw materials and textures. Concrete is an ancient and remarkable durable material - that hardens and grows stronger over time. Its endurance, combined with the fact that it achieves strength without needing to be fired at high temperatures, fascinates me. In my work, I aim to creating a light and airy expression with concrete, pushing the boundaries of its aesthetic potential. Sculpting with this material is a delicate process. - It demands gentle and yet decisive movements, as too much vibrations will cause it to flow and collapse. Once the piece has hardened, I refine, enhance, and reveal what is already there - highlighting the sculptural character with pigments and surface treatments. In this dialogue between strength and grace, the material itself becomes alive.«
»There is something raw, tactile, earthy, and very passionate about Susanne Storm’s works. Working with concrete means she only has a short time to shape the work before it solidifies, and the intensity of the creation process spreads to her pots, reliefs, and sculptures. At the same time, it seems as if she manages to let go of the process at exactly the right moment, allowing the work to remain almost alive. The choice of colors seems effortless and makes the works beautiful both together and separately — or perhaps especially when placed against modern, strict design.« Nomination for Creative of the Year 2024, DK
All pieces are unique. Reliefs and vessels are waterproof and frost-proof. When used outdoors, they will develop a beautiful patina over time. To preserve the raw tactility of the concrete, the vessels are not glazed. When used indoors, the vessel may produce condensation if containing plants or water. To avoid leaving marks on delicate floors or tables, place an inner container inside the vessel or elevate it slightly above the surface, for example on a tripod or stand.
